Students 16 years and older will follow the adult testing requirements beginning with the 6th Kyu test. Students 13 to 15 years of age will begin by testing for 12th Kyu (or higher at Sensei's discretion), testing requirements to be determined by Sensei on a case by case basis for each student testing. Any student applying for a kyu promotion must be a member in good standing. A member in good standing is current with all dues, follows the rules of the dojo and ASU, and demonstrates proper etiquette. No student shall test for rank who (unless granted an exception for extenuating circumstances) has not contributed to the life of the dojo (cleaning, setting up, taking down, helping to promote the dojo in the community, etc.) or has not attended a minimum of two classes per week (unless an exception is made at Sensei's discretion based on being absent for excusable reasons) for the four month period prior to the test (or 8 months if only able to train once per week).

6th Kyu and higher To be eligible to test, a student must have completed the required classes of training and must have been training consistently for the number of months specified. The indicated number of classes and months are bare minimums. Testing for the rank of fourth kyu or higher requires attending an ASU seminar within the prior twelve months before testing. Sensei must also give permission to test. Please note that no matter how many classes you attend in one day, one day's training only counts as one training hour (except in the case of seminar attendance where each class counts as a training hour). The fee to test is $45 for each kyu grade. Students testing for the first time will be required to Join ASU before testing. The annual ASU fee is i$45. All fees must be paid in advance of the test.

12th through 7th Kyu To be eligible to test students must have trained consistently for four months and have permission to test from Sensei. The fee to test is $10.
